In the interminable interstices between the end of Emerald Nightmare and the beginning of Nighthold, three bosses sit. They’re in a bit of a weird place because they’re sort of like… I’m not sure, like the tortilla chips and salsa that get put on the table at a mexican restaurant or the fried won tons with duck sauce they used to do at chinese restaurants back on the east coast (I don’t know if they still do; I haven’t seen that at all on the west coast). Trial of Valor is something to snack on after you’ve finished your soup or appetizer but before your actual meal is ready.
Odyn’s fight has a lot of potential and I sort of like the idea of having to organize yourself on the fly, but between invisible stun orbs, on-pull threat shenanigans, swords and spears spawning directly on top of runes whose runebearers aren’t dead yet, and a not-entirely-consistent phase 3 tank mechanic, it doesn’t feel right, you know? Still, the bones of a good fight are here and I’m probably making the bugs sound worse than they are—they suck, but it is occasionally possible to forget about them and just enjoy doing mechanics.
